Northland's Approach to Quality Control

At Northland Equipment, quality isn't just something we say—it's something we inspect, test, and confirm on every single truck. Before a vehicle ever leaves our lot, it goes through a detailed, hands-on process to make sure it's done right.

Because around here, "good enough" just isn't good enough.

Quality Is a Team Effort

It all starts with our installation technicians, who are trained to follow exact specifications for every piece of equipment we install—plows, spreaders, service bodies, flatbeds, lighting, hydraulics, and more.

After the install, they do their own first round of checks, tightening hardware, testing functionality, and making sure everything looks and performs the way it should.

But the final say comes from our Quality Control Department—the last stop before a truck hits the road.

âś…What Does QC Actually Do?

Led by Carl Logue, our QC Manager, and assisted by Amber Lounsbury, our quality control team inspects every truck from bumper to bumper. And we mean every truck.

Each piece of equipment has a custom checklist that the team runs through—from functionality to finish work.

🔍What we inspect:

  • âś… All fasteners torqued and secure

  • âś…Equipment functions tested (plow raise/lower, spreader spins, lights, PTO, etc.)

  • âś…Wiring is clean, protected, and routed properly

  • âś…Matches the original work order and customer expectations

  • âś…Meets or exceeds DOT and safety standards

  • âś…Final visual check for build quality and finish

Nothing gets overlooked—this is where we make sure it's done right.

Color-Coded Wiring You Can Actually Follow

One thing that sets Northland apart is our attention to detail in wiring. We don't just get power to your lights and switches—we do it in a way that's clean, traceable, and easy to service later.

  • đź”´Hot wires are covered in red loom

  • 🔵Keyed ignition wires are covered in blue loom

  • 🟡Bright yellow, weatherproof tags added by QC to make wire identification quick and easy

  • 🧰No more digging through a bundle of standard black wires to troubleshoot equipment

We do this because we want your equipment to be easy to work on, whether it's next week or five years from now.

🧼Final Touches That Matter

Before a truck leaves our shop, our QC team gives the equipment a hand wash to make sure it looks as good as it works. Every upfit is also photographed and documented, including key product serial numbers, so we always have a reference if you ever need service or support down the line.

For complex electrical setups, we'll even create a custom wiring schematic so you can understand your system as well as we do.

It's all about setting you—and your truck—up for success.

💬"We want your truck to leave here looking sharp, functioning perfectly, and ready for work on Day One. And if anything ever goes wrong, we've got the records to help make it right." — Carl Logue, QC Manager

We Aim for Perfection, But We're Human

We don't cut corners or skip steps. Whether it's a fleet truck or a one-off custom build, every job is treated with the same level of care. The QC department is a second set of eyes, but also a backstop—we're not sending out anything we wouldn't stand behind 100%.

As much as we strive for perfection—and we truly do—it's important to be real: sometimes mistakes happen, or things get missed.

When that happens, we do what's right:

  • We own it

  • We fix it

  • And we treat our customers fairly and honestly

That mindset is part of our company values and how we've built lasting trust with our customers over the years.

The Support Doesn't Stop at the Gate

Our commitment to quality doesn't stop when the keys are handed over. If you ever need help—whether it's service, adjustments, or follow-up questions—our team is here and ready to assist.

We back our work and believe in building long-term trust with the people who count on us every day.
